Karen Hughes and Laura Bush

"The images of crime being committed in the face of an awful natural disaster is hard for anyone to understand, people around the world and Americans. It sickens me as an American. How could criminals prey on vulnerable elderly citizens and children during a time of such horror?

[What] I will challenge in any stories I see is any idea that we didn't want to help people. We certainly wanted to help everyone. It's offensive to me to suggest that somehow, as I've seen some headlines and some reports do, that people, that Americans, weren't helped because they are poor or because of their race. That is anti-American. That is not what our country is about."

Karen Hughes, Sept. 9th, 2005

"I think all of those remarks were disgusting, to be perfectly frank because, of course, President Bush cares about everyone in our country.

I do think -- and we all saw this -- was that poor people were more vulnerable. They live in poor neighborhoods; their neighborhoods were the ones that were more likely to flood, as we saw in New Orleans.

Their housing was more vulnerable, and that's what we saw and that's what we want to address in our country."

Laura Bush, Sept. 9th, 2005, from CNN "Charges that Racism Slowed Aid 'Disgusting.'"

  • The First Lady is disgusted.

Not about what happened in New Orleans....she's disgusted about Kanye West.

What does Karen Hughes find sickening?

The looting. The crime. The anti-American charges of racism..

    Spoken like true conservatives.

  • Notice Bushco uses "anti-american" charge to try to silence their opposition. They used it after 9/11 to silence opposition to the war in Iraq. But this time it won't work, we saw 20,000 people elderly and babies dying at the superdome. And we also saw the images of King George eating cake with John McCain. Then he went and strummed his guitar.
And let's not forget Cheney's lucid remark a few years ago "I don't know what its like to be a black man in America." He may not know, but seeing all those people of color abandoned at the Superdome..gives us a good idea.

Did you see Gilliard today? Cards on the Table.

"And it took a week for Bush to respond, while his wife called the greatest natural disaster in American history Corrina. Yeah, I bet you get Xanax and Merlot right. You don't call it Zantrax."

Priceless. One of many money quotes.

  • I guess the definition of "disgusting" has been changed to mean "criticizing Dear Leader". but people being left to starve and drown - hey, it didn't even happen.
