Cole Coffee in Oakland

I know that it's been forever since I've posted. Here's something new.

For as long as I've been writing online my work has been fueled by coffee and tea from Cole Coffee in Oakland California. This is the double cafe at the corner of 63rd Street and College Avenue that used to be called Royal and now bears the name of Cole from its new proprietor, Mike Murphy.

Cole Coffee, whether as a place to sit for a morning repast or an afternoon conversation, is someplace special. Mike and the entire crew are all really cool people. You can drink individually brewed drip coffees or press pots in the front cafe...or hit the take out counter for a quick cup or latte.

Appropos to the holidays they do sell and ship beans and tea, including many Fair Trade and Organic selections at their website. I tend to take a couple pounds to whomever I'm visiting on the holidays. Makes for some great conversation.

I'm writing this just because I like and respect Mike and would love to see more people learn about one of the best coffee shops in the world.

thanks KO. I haven't been to Royal coffee in years (since moving to Lake Merritt area). if I am over that way soon I will make it a point of checking out the new Cole Coffee. And fair trade products are great christmas gifts!

I used to live around the corner from Royal Coffee (across the street from the old Yoshi's jazz club..sigh). Oakland is fantastic (sadly I don't live there anymore). Thanks for writing this; I will check out ordering some coffee from Cole.

Is the Claremont diner still there?
